My story
My own life experiences have been a driving force behind my decision to become a counsellor. Navigating a divorce, grieving the loss of loved ones and raising children has deepened my understanding of the uncertainty these transitions can bring. I have come to learn that life is full of joys and challenges that help shape who we are and how we relate to the world. Working through hard times helped me gain resilience and grow as a person. I hope to help guide clients through their own obstacles, getting to a place of strength and empowerment.
Moving away from a career in seniors health care in my early forties, I decided to go back back to school and pursue studies towards becoming a clinical counsellor. My inherent curiousity about people and my ability to listen made counselling feel like a natural fit for me. The strength of the therapeutic relationship is one of the most reliable predictors of positive outcomes in counselling. Knowing that and leaning into what comes naturally to me, I prioritze trust, empathy, collaboration and mutual respect in every session.
My approach
I take a person-centered approach, which means I’ll spend time getting to know you and learning what works best for you, both in therapy and in life. You can expect our sessions to feel natural, non-clinical, and safe. I offer a caring, non-judgmental approach, and I strive to build a secure and supportive relationship with you. I want you to feel heard and understood, as we work together through whatever you’re going through. I believe that everyone has the ability to navigate life’s obstacles, but sometimes, we all need a little support in realizing how to move forward. I pull from various therapeutic approaches like Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Strengths Based Therapy. As someone who values learning, I continuously seek new approaches and commit to personal and professional development.
My education
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Sociology from the University of British Columbia in 2004. I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University (2024) and am licensed through the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counselling.
Outside of work
When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with family and friends, raising wonderful teenagers, traveling, or enjoying the outdoors. I love staying active—whether it’s walking, skiing, canoeing, or playing volleyball. I'm most grounded when I'm paddling my canoe in a remote lake and discovering new camp spots with my partner. This year, I made a goal to include more live music into my life. I love the sense of connection I feel when I'm with people, enjoying a shared experience. I’m happiest and healthiest when I’m with the people I love and adventuring outside.
